Cowscapes (2017)

Maesen grew up next to a farm where vleeskoeien (meat cattle) were raised and fattened for slaughter. When walking his dog, he often encountered them — curious, gentle beings whose muscular bodies formed extraordinary shapes.

At night, he began photographing them, their backs appearing like dark, monumental landscapes — mountains of flesh beneath the moonlight.

From this emerged a small series of 'Cowscapes'.
